About Us

BACKGROUND

Sisters In Christ Jesus is a registered NPC with PBO and section 18A status. SICJ has been operating for the past decade by partnering with different ministries to bring hope and change to our communities, by providing food, clothing, shoes, stationery and house appliances to families in need.

Sisters in Christ Jesus was founded by Val Kisten in pursuit of fulfilling her deep desire to help others in need. This desire to open her arms to the poor and extend her hands to the needy is based on Proverbs 31:20.

Val’s desire to help others in need, is largely due to her own childhood hardships and challenges. A deep desire to reach out to poor and underprivileged communities and bring them tangible hope and joy by meeting their needs. Sisters in Christ Jesus (SICJ) ministry was born as a result of this  desire.

DIRECTORSHIP

VAL KISTEN

Val was born and raised in KZN. She grew up as an unhappy child due to a troubled childhood which included moving around a lot due to the fact that her mom was a single parent. Her parents had a turbulent marriage, her dad was an alcoholic which led to abuse and abandonment. At age 17, Val met her husband to-be (Ken), she married Ken at age 20.

She felt Ken gave her a sense of stability and love that she didn’t have as a child. In her own words, “It really was the beginning of my journey with God and my life as I knew it began to change and improve. This gave me stability.” Shortly after getting married, they moved to Johannesburg where she now resides.

Val has since experienced the healing of an aggressive cancer. She believes that through the mercy of God, and her growing faith, she was healed. In 2019, Val celebrated 20 years of marriage to the love of her life whom she met as a teenager. She has 2 sons, Jaden and Caleb. Val’s deepest desire is to help the poor and underprivileged people and to be used to bring hope and healing to hurting women.
